American White Bresse

They are a dual purpose breed used for meat and eggs, laying an average of 280 cream eggs per year! Roosters average 4-5lbs, hens average 3-4lbs at maturity with a higher meat to bone ratio than any other chicken. They can come in White, Black, Splash varieties and live up to 12yrs. They are heat and cold hardy birds and thrive off a large amount of free ranging space to forage for insects and seeds.
Bresse Chickens metabolize their nutrients differently than other chickens, giving their meat a unique flavor with marbling. They have think bones which gives a much higher meat to bone ratio. Bresse chickens are fed a special diet the last few weeks prior to butchering, consisting of milk and grain to enhance the marbling and flavors of their meat. Traditionally, Bresse are served with their striking blue legs still on the carcass.
Bresse Chickens begin laying eggs earlier than most chicken breeds, at 4-5mos. They lay an average of 280 large cream colored eggs per year and are known to lay all year, requiring minimal light to continue production.
